Vision:
Communication Rights Australia believes and works towards all citizens of Australia having equal effective enjoyment of all human rights.
Mission:
All people who experience communication or speech difficulties have the right to express themselves and be heard.
Individual Advocacy:
The advocacy service is available to people with little or no speech who have no appointed advocate or guardian. On request Communication Rights Australia will represent an individual and speak on their behalf.
Communication Rights Australia will represent the concerns and interests of the individual as directed by the person according to the advocacy process outlined below.
Communication Rights Australia Advocacy Process:
1. Initial referral: from self, worker, family, Communication Rights Australia staff, other professionals.
2. Approval & Consent: from individual for our involvement.
3. Meet & discuss options.
4. Develop a goal: short and/or long term.
5. Plan action: depending on the individuals needs and option choices.
6. Take action: as agreed with the individual towards the resolution of the issues raised by the individual, ensuring the empowerment of the individual.
7. Evaluation: carried out by both the individual and the worker to identify gaps within the process.
8. Termination of the relationship: goal has been achieved and linking into existing services or networks.
Strategies:
Communication Rights Australia is driving fundamental social and cultural change within the general community to eliminate the disabling barriers that impact on people accessing their rights. To achieve this objective:
1. We will provide advocacy for people who experience little or no speech, and information and community education to all key players within the system.
2. We will provide representation to Governments, service providers and Corporations on barriers experienced by people when accessing their rights.
